Nika Awards
Russia's national film awards, presented by the Russian Academy of Cinema Arts and Sciences to honor the best in Russian cinema across all major filmmaking categories.
Overview
The Nika Awards are Russia's premier film prizes, presented annually by the Russian Academy of Cinema Arts and Sciences. Named after the Greek goddess of victory Nike (rendered in Russian as Nika), the awards honor outstanding achievement in Russian cinema across all major filmmaking categories. The ceremony takes place in Moscow, typically in March or April.
Russia has one of the world's oldest and most influential film traditions, stretching from the pioneering work of Sergei Eisenstein and Dziga Vertov through the Soviet-era masters like Andrei Tarkovsky and Elem Klimov to contemporary filmmakers. The Nika Awards celebrate this tradition and its continuing creative output.
The Russian Academy of Cinema Arts and Sciences membership includes professionals from across the Russian film industry who vote on nominations and winners. The Nika is the older of Russia's two major film awards, the other being the Golden Eagle Award presented by the National Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences of Russia.
