History
The Visual Effects Society was founded in 1997 as a professional honorary society for VFX artists. The awards program launched in 2003, filling a gap in the awards landscape. Before the VES Awards, visual effects professionals had limited opportunities for peer recognition beyond the single Oscar category and occasional technical achievement awards.
The VES Awards quickly established credibility because the voting electorate consists entirely of working VFX professionals who understand the technical and artistic challenges of the work.
