Filmhub
Self-service digital distribution platform connecting independent filmmakers directly to over 100 streaming channels worldwide, operating on a revenue-share model with no upfront fees.
Overview
Filmhub is a digital film distribution marketplace that connects independent filmmakers and rights holders directly to over 100 streaming channels and platforms worldwide. Founded in 2017 and headquartered in Los Angeles, the company operates a free-to-use aggregator model: filmmakers pay no upfront fee to list their films, and Filmhub earns 20% of any revenue generated through the deals it facilitates. If a film earns nothing, the filmmaker pays nothing.
This revenue-share-only model distinguishes Filmhub from traditional aggregators like Quiver Digital or former services like Distribber, which typically charged flat fees per platform delivery regardless of whether the film generated revenue. The model lowers the barrier to entry for independent filmmakers distributing their first feature and eliminates the financial risk of paying for delivery to platforms that may not generate significant revenue.
How Filmhub Works
Filmhub operates a marketplace model: filmmakers upload their film, technical specs, and metadata to the Filmhub platform. Channel partners -- streaming services including Tubi, Plex, Xumo, Fandor, Topic, Classix, and many others -- browse the available catalog and select titles they want to carry. When a channel selects a film, Filmhub handles the technical delivery and manages the revenue collection and reporting.
The filmmaker retains all rights and can set exclusivity terms. Films listed on Filmhub can be simultaneously available through other distribution channels, provided the filmmaker has not granted exclusivity to a Filmhub channel partner for a given territory or platform type.
Platform Reach
Filmhub delivers to over 100 channels globally, spanning AVOD (ad-supported free streaming), SVOD (subscription), TVOD (transactional rental/purchase), and FAST (free ad-supported television) platforms. Notable channel partners include:
- Tubi (AVOD, US and international)
- Plex (FAST/AVOD)
- Xumo (FAST)
- Fandor (SVOD, arthouse focus)
- Topic (SVOD, international documentary)
- Classix (classic and repertory cinema)
- Regional and genre-specific platforms across Europe, Latin America, and Asia
Filmhub does not currently deliver to Netflix, Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, or Hulu -- those platforms require direct aggregator relationships that involve higher technical standards and established delivery pipelines. For filmmakers targeting those major platforms, a traditional aggregator like Quiver Digital is necessary.
What Filmmakers Should Know
Filmhub is best suited to filmmakers who:
- Have completed films with no upfront distribution budget
- Are targeting AVOD and FAST platforms rather than major SVOD services
- Want broad platform presence rather than selective high-value placement
- Are comfortable with a revenue-share model where earnings depend on actual viewership
The trade-off for the free entry model is that Filmhub's channel partners are generally smaller platforms with lower per-view rates than major SVOD services. Revenue from Filmhub distribution is typically modest unless a film generates significant volume across multiple platforms. Filmmakers should not expect Filmhub distribution alone to replace income from a traditional distribution deal or major platform placement.
Filmhub is transparent about its revenue reporting, providing filmmakers with channel-level data on views and earnings. This transparency is a meaningful advantage over some traditional distribution models where revenue reporting is limited.
Filmhub vs. Traditional Aggregators
The core difference between Filmhub and aggregators like Quiver Digital is the fee structure and platform access. Filmhub is free to use but accesses a smaller universe of platforms. Traditional aggregators charge upfront fees but can deliver to Netflix, Apple, Amazon, and Hulu. For a comprehensive digital distribution strategy, filmmakers often use both: Filmhub for AVOD and FAST platform coverage, and a traditional aggregator for major SVOD placement.
