Berlinale Talents
The world's largest talent development program for emerging film professionals, held annually in February during the Berlin International Film Festival, connecting 200 selected talents with industry mentors and fellow filmmakers.
Overview
Berlinale Talents is the world's largest talent development program for emerging film professionals. Founded in 2003 and held annually during the Berlin International Film Festival, the program selects 200 emerging filmmakers, screenwriters, producers, cinematographers, editors, sound designers, and other film professionals from around the world for an intensive week of workshops, masterclasses, and networking with established industry figures.
Berlinale Talents occupies a unique position in the global film ecosystem. Unlike conventional festival programs, it is designed not to screen films but to develop the people who make them. The program brings together extraordinary concentrations of talent -- both emerging and established -- in a focused learning environment during one of the world's most important film events.
Selection for Berlinale Talents is competitive and prestigious. Each year approximately 3,000 to 4,000 applications are submitted for 200 places, and being selected is recognized within the industry as a meaningful credential signaling exceptional potential.

What Filmmakers Should Know
Applications for Berlinale Talents open several months before the February Berlin Film Festival. The application requires a project or portfolio demonstrating the applicant's work and potential. Selected Talents receive free participation in the program, which includes access to Berlinale screenings, events, and industry activities.
The network built through Berlinale Talents extends across the global film industry. Many alumni go on to significant careers, and the bonds formed during the intensive program week often result in long-term collaborations. Former Talents regularly return as mentors and masterclass presenters.
Talents Sarajevo, a satellite program run during the Sarajevo Film Festival, extends the Berlinale Talents model to Southeast European filmmakers.
Major Awards
Berlinale Talents does not present competitive awards. Recognition is conveyed through selection itself, and the program presents occasional distinction prizes for outstanding project work.
Festival History
Berlinale Talents was founded in 2003 as part of the Berlinale's broader initiative to invest in the future of filmmaking. The program has grown from its initial format into a comprehensive week-long development event that is widely considered the gold standard for filmmaker development programs worldwide.
