Camerimage International Film Festival
The world's only film festival dedicated entirely to the art of cinematography, held annually in November in Torun, Poland, celebrating directors of photography and the visual craft of filmmaking.
Overview
Camerimage is the world's only major film festival dedicated entirely to the art of cinematography. Founded in 1993, the festival celebrates directors of photography (DPs) and the visual craft of filmmaking across a program of feature films, shorts, music videos, commercials, and student films. Held annually in November in the historic Polish city of Torun, Camerimage attracts the global cinematography community for screenings, workshops, masterclasses, and the prestigious Golden Frog award.
The festival has become the single most important gathering for the cinematography profession worldwide. Legendary DPs including Roger Deakins, Emmanuel Lubezki, Janusz Kaminski, Vittorio Storaro, and Gordon Willis have all been honored or participated at Camerimage. The festival's workshops and masterclasses provide emerging cinematographers with unparalleled access to the craft knowledge of their greatest living practitioners.
Camerimage's focus on the visual language of cinema rather than narrative content gives it a distinctive perspective. Films are evaluated and discussed primarily through the lens of their cinematographic achievement, creating a critical discourse centered on visual storytelling that is largely absent from generalist festivals.

What Filmmakers Should Know
Camerimage accepts submissions from filmmakers, cinematographers, and production companies. For DPs, a Camerimage selection is a mark of professional recognition from the most discerning community of visual practitioners in the world. The Golden Frog is the most prestigious award specifically for cinematography that exists.
The festival's workshops are particularly valuable for emerging cinematographers. Sessions on lighting design, camera technique, color science, and visual storytelling are led by industry leaders and provide practical knowledge unavailable elsewhere.
Many of the world's leading cinematographers attend Camerimage in person, creating networking opportunities that would be impossible to replicate anywhere else. The DPs' social events, dinners, and gatherings are informal but professionally significant.

Festival History
Camerimage was founded in 1993 by Marek Zydowicz in the Polish city of Bydgoszcz before moving to Torun. The festival grew from a small gathering of cinematographers into the global institution it is today. The founding vision was simple: create a space where the art of cinematography could be celebrated on its own terms, with the DP recognized as a primary author of the cinematic image. This vision has proven extraordinarily resonant with the professional community.
