Overview

Nightstream is a US horror, science fiction, and genre film festival founded in 2020 as a collaborative emergency response to the COVID-19 pandemic's shutdown of the film festival circuit. Five established genre festivals -- Brooklyn Horror Film Festival, Chattanooga Film Festival, North Bend Film Festival, Salem Horror Fest, and Others -- joined forces to create a shared virtual platform when their in-person events could not take place.

The festival's origin story is remarkable: rather than canceling their 2020 editions, five independent genre festivals created something new together, combining their programming and communities into a single event that proved both artistically successful and commercially viable. Nightstream has continued operating in subsequent years in various hybrid forms.

The collaborative model reflects the community spirit of the independent horror and genre festival world, where programmers and organizers have longstanding relationships with each other and with the filmmaking community they serve.
