Overview

Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival is North America's largest documentary festival and one of the world's most important. Founded in 1993 and held annually in April and May in Toronto, the festival presents competitive international documentary programming alongside the world's most active documentary market and pitching forum.

Hot Docs operates the Hot Docs Forum, which is the most competitive documentary pitching event in the world -- projects that secure presentations before the Forum's assembled commissioners from BBC, Netflix, Arte, CBC, and other major broadcasters and platforms attract financing that makes their films possible. The Forum has been instrumental in launching some of the most celebrated documentary films of the past two decades.

The festival also operates Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema, Toronto's only cinema dedicated full-time to documentary exhibition, creating a year-round institutional presence in North America's largest film market.
