Overview
FIDMarseille (Festival International de Cinema de Marseille) is a competitive festival dedicated to documentary, essay, and hybrid cinema. The 37th edition runs July 7 to 12, 2026, in Marseille. The festival programs approximately 100 films across 6 days, with around 50 films in competition across 5 sections. It draws roughly 23,000 spectators annually and receives approximately 3,000 submissions per year. The festival is supported by the City of Marseille, the Sud Region, and the French Ministry of Culture.
FIDMarseille was founded in 1990 under the name "Biennale europeenne du documentaire" and was renamed FIDMarseille in 1999. Submission Details
Submissions are made through the FIDMarseille Eventival platform. The festival accepts open submissions for all competition sections.

Industry Programs
FIDLab is the festival's international co-production platform. The 18th edition runs July 9 and 10, 2026. FIDLab selects 10 to 12 projects per year at any stage of development (writing, development, or post-production), regardless of format or duration. Selected filmmakers receive organized meetings with producers, distributors, sales agents, and funding bodies. The FIDLab registration fee is EUR 40. Since 2008, over 60 films have gone through FIDLab. The platform provides a follow-up program 6 months after the onsite edition through its "Follow up!" initiative.
FID Campus is a training program for young professionals, running alongside the festival.
What Filmmakers Should Know
FIDMarseille is one of the most receptive European platforms for formally experimental and hybrid work. Filmmakers whose work resists easy classification will find a sympathetic audience here. The festival screens across multiple venues in Marseille, including cinemas, museums, libraries, and art galleries.
The festival includes a prison outreach program at the Marseille Les Baumettes prison. Approximately 10 competition films are screened to incarcerated volunteers who form their own jury and award the Second Chance School Award. A high school jury of 16 students from the Aix-Marseille Academy awards the Highschool Award.
For filmmakers seeking distribution, the festival offers Distribution Support Awards that provide financial assistance for theatrical release in France.

Festival History
FIDMarseille was founded in 1990 as the "Biennale europeenne du documentaire," a biennial event focused on European documentary. The festival became annual and was renamed FIDMarseille in 1999, broadening its scope to include international documentary, fiction, and hybrid cinema. Over 36 editions, the festival has built a reputation for programming work that other festivals hesitate to categorize.
The Georges de Beauregard Award was created by Chantal de Beauregard as a tribute to her father. He was the Marseille-born producer who produced key films of the French New Wave including Jean-Luc Godard's Breathless (1960). FIDLab was launched in 2008 as a co-production platform to support fragile and unusual works at any stage of production. Alumni films have premiered at Rotterdam, Berlin, and Locarno.
