CinEast -- Central and Eastern European Film Festival Luxembourg
Luxembourg's most distinctive film festival, held annually in October, dedicated exclusively to cinema from Central and Eastern Europe and providing Western European audiences with access to a rich and underrepresented filmmaking tradition.
Overview
CinEast is Luxembourg's most distinctive film festival. Founded in 2007 and held annually in October in Luxembourg City, the festival is dedicated exclusively to cinema from Central and Eastern Europe, covering films from countries including Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Russia, Georgia, Armenia, the Baltic states, and the former Yugoslav republics.
Luxembourg's multilingual, internationalist culture and its position at the heart of Western Europe make it an ideal location for a festival dedicated to bringing Eastern European cinema to Western audiences. The festival has built a reputation for programming films from Eastern European countries that are otherwise underrepresented in Western European cinema culture.
Romania, Poland, Hungary, and Romania in particular have produced internationally acclaimed filmmakers whose work CinEast has championed with particular consistency.
