Overview

Ficunam (Festival Internacional de Cine de la Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico) is one of Mexico's most artistically rigorous film festivals. Founded in 2011 and held annually in February and March in Mexico City under the auspices of UNAM -- Mexico's national university and one of Latin America's largest academic institutions -- the festival presents formally adventurous, politically engaged, and artistically challenging world cinema.

UNAM's institutional backing gives Ficunam exceptional cultural authority and access to one of the world's largest university communities. The festival programs across UNAM's campus cinemas and other Mexico City venues, bringing world cinema to a primarily academic audience with high levels of cinematic knowledge.

The festival's programming philosophy prioritizes artistic ambition over commercial appeal, making it one of the most intellectually serious film events in Latin America.
