Panama International Film Festival (IFFP)
Panama's most important film festival, held annually in Panama City, presenting Panamanian and international cinema in the crossroads of the Americas and one of Central America's most internationally connected cities.
Overview
The Panama International Film Festival (IFFP) is Panama's most important film festival. Founded in 2012 and held annually in Panama City, the festival presents Panamanian and international cinema in one of the Americas' most strategically positioned cities.
Panama City's identity as the crossroads of the Americas -- connecting North and South America through the Panama Canal and serving as a major international banking and commerce hub -- gives the festival an unusual international character. The city's large community of expats and international residents alongside Panamanians of African, Indigenous, Chinese, and Spanish heritage creates a diverse, internationally minded audience.
The Panama Canal's extraordinary engineering significance and Panama's strategic importance in global trade give documentary filmmakers with international themes a particularly receptive local audience.
