Trieste Science + Fiction Festival
Italy's most important science fiction film festival, held annually in October-November in Trieste, celebrating the best in science fiction cinema from around the world alongside a broader speculative film program.
Overview
Trieste Science + Fiction Festival is Italy's most important science fiction film festival and one of the oldest genre festivals in the world. Founded in 1963 in Trieste, a city on the Adriatic coast at the convergence of Italian, Slavic, and Central European cultures, the festival presents the best in science fiction, speculative fiction, and genre cinema from around the world.
The festival's Trieste location is historically resonant. The city was the eastern frontier of Italy during the Cold War, a contested territory between East and West, and this border identity -- between cultures, between worlds -- gives the festival a natural affinity with science fiction's interest in boundaries, futures, and alternative realities.
The festival screens approximately 50 films over six days and has a competitive program that includes major international science fiction films alongside independent and European genre productions.
