Overview

Devour! The Food Film Fest is the world's largest food film festival, held annually in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, Canada. The 16th edition runs October 19 to 25, 2026. The festival programs over 70 events combining culinary cinema with food experiences, including film screenings, chef demonstrations, tasting tours, and community meals. The 2026 spotlight theme is "Devour! The Sea," exploring the ocean's influence on culture, community, and cuisine.

All submitted films must relate to food, beverage, or the environment in some way. This is a hard requirement - films without a food, beverage, or environmental connection will not be considered. The Programming Committee views all entries and makes final selections at its sole discretion.

Festival History

Devour! was founded in 2009 in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. The festival was created to combine culinary arts with cinema in a region known for its agricultural and wine production. Over 15 editions, it has grown from a local event into the self-described largest food film festival in the world, measured by event count and attendance.

The festival has expanded beyond its annual October event. Devour! Studios, a year-round cultural and culinary space in Wolfville, hosts seafood cooking courses and other events throughout the year. The studio is available for rent through devourstudios.com.

The festival's integration of food experiences alongside film screenings creates a multi-sensory format that is unique among film festivals. Rather than simply screening food documentaries, Devour! pairs films with the foods they depict, creating a direct sensory connection between the cinema and its subject matter.

For documentary and narrative filmmakers whose work addresses food, beverage, agriculture, or environmental issues, Devour! is the most targeted festival platform available. If your film is selected, the exhibition format is DCP or Blu-Ray. Plan your delivery accordingly. The festival does not accept other exhibition formats.

The Nourish Nova Scotia Youth Food and Film Challenge is a separate opportunity for young filmmakers. If you are under 18 or work with youth filmmakers, this category has its own submission process and deadline (October 5, 2026) and does not require a FilmFreeway submission.

The festival's location in Wolfville (population approximately 4,000) means accommodation is limited. If your film is selected, book lodging early. The festival period in October is peak fall foliage season in Nova Scotia, which increases tourist traffic in the Annapolis Valley region.
