Odesa International Film Festival
Ukraine's largest film festival, held annually in July in Odesa, presenting competitive international and Ukrainian cinema on the Black Sea coast in one of Ukraine's most historically significant cities.
Overview
The Odesa International Film Festival is Ukraine's largest and most important film festival. Founded in 2010 and held annually in July in Odesa on Ukraine's Black Sea coast, the festival has grown rapidly into a significant European event that presents competitive international programming alongside a showcase of Ukrainian and Eastern European cinema.
The festival has taken on additional significance since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, becoming a symbol of Ukrainian cultural resilience and providing important international attention for Ukrainian filmmaking. The festival has continued to operate despite wartime conditions, demonstrating the same determination as Sarajevo Film Festival during the Bosnian war.
Odesa's extraordinary historical and architectural heritage -- its grand 19th-century Richelieu Steps famously depicted in Eisenstein's Battleship Potemkin -- gives the festival a cinematic resonance that few other settings can match. The Potemkin Steps and Odesa's stunning city center serve as outdoor screening venues and festival gathering points.

Festival History
Odesa International Film Festival was founded in 2010 and grew rapidly into Ukraine's largest film event before the Russian invasion disrupted cultural life across the country. The festival's continued operation since 2022 has become a statement of cultural resistance.
