Savannah Film Festival

One of the largest film festivals in the American South, held annually in October-November in Savannah, presenting independent American and international cinema to the students of SCAD and the broader Savannah community.

Overview

The Savannah Film Festival is one of the largest film festivals in the American South. Founded in 1998 and organized by the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) -- one of the largest and most influential art and design universities in the United States -- the festival presents independent American and international cinema in Savannah's extraordinary historic district.

SCAD's involvement gives the festival unusual resources and infrastructure. With over 15,000 students at its Savannah campus and satellite campuses in Atlanta, Hong Kong, Lacoste (France), and online, SCAD brings not only institutional support but a large, cinema-engaged student audience to the festival.

Savannah's extraordinary architectural heritage -- its 22 historic squares, its antebellum townhouses, and its Spanish moss-draped oaks -- creates a festival environment of exceptional visual beauty. Outdoor screenings in Savannah's squares are among the most visually spectacular venue experiences available at any US film festival.
