Busan Asian Film School (BAFS)
A professional development program for emerging Asian filmmakers operated by the Busan International Film Festival, providing intensive training and mentorship in collaboration with leading Asian cinema institutions.
Overview
The Busan Asian Film School (BAFS) is a professional development program for emerging Asian filmmakers operated by the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF). Founded in 2005, the program brings together approximately 20 to 30 selected filmmakers from across Asia each year for an intensive two-week program of workshops, masterclasses, and project development that runs during the Busan Film Festival in October.
BAFS operates on the premise that Asian cinema requires its own dedicated training infrastructure rather than relying on European or American film schools. The program develops filmmakers who are grounded in Asian cinematic traditions while equipped to participate in the global film market.
Participation in BAFS provides emerging Asian directors, screenwriters, and producers with access to the Busan Film Festival's full industry activities, including the Asian Contents and Film Market (ACFM) and the Asian Cinema Fund (ACF), alongside the educational program.

Festival History
BAFS was founded in 2005 as part of Busan's broader commitment to developing the infrastructure of Asian cinema. The program has produced graduates who have gone on to significant careers in Asian cinema, and it remains one of the most prestigious filmmaker development programs available to emerging Asian talent.
