Raindance Film Festival is the UK's largest independent film festival. Founded in 1992 in London, the festival screens approximately 100 films over 10 days each October and has built a reputation for celebrating truly independent cinema -- films made outside the established industry framework with minimal resources but maximum creative ambition.
Raindance was founded alongside the Raindance Film School, creating an unusual dual identity as both a festival and a filmmaking education organization. Festival History
Raindance was founded in 1992 by Elliot Grove, a Canadian filmmaker living in London. The festival was established with an explicit mission of supporting micro-budget independent filmmaking and providing an alternative to the established British film industry's platforms. The parallel film school has educated thousands of UK filmmakers since its founding.
