Overview

The Sarasota Film Festival is a 10-day independent film festival held annually in April in Sarasota, Florida. Founded in 1998, the 28th edition ran April 10 to 19, 2026, screening 102 films including 47 features (4 world premieres, 17 Florida premieres) and 39 short films. The 29th edition is scheduled for April 9 to 18, 2027. The festival is Academy Award-qualifying in its short film categories and accepts open submissions through FilmFreeway.

For independent American filmmakers, Sarasota offers a spring platform between the major winter festivals (Sundance, SXSW) and the summer circuit. The festival screens at multiple venues across downtown Sarasota including CineBistro, New College of Florida, Ringling College, and the Sarasota Art Museum. Academy Award Qualifying Status

The Sarasota Film Festival is an Academy Award-qualifying festival for short films. The festival is directed by Paul Ratner and is sponsored in part by Sarasota County Tourism Development Tax Revenues, with grant contributions from the Community Foundation of Sarasota County and Gulf Coast Community Foundation.
