Overview

The Transilvania International Film Festival (TIFF) is Romania's most important film festival and one of the leading film events in Southeastern Europe. Held annually in late May and early June in Cluj-Napoca, Romania's second-largest city, TIFF has FIAPF Competitive Specialised accreditation and screens approximately 200 films over 11 days to audiences of over 100,000.

TIFF has grown rapidly since its founding in 2002, establishing itself as a genuinely competitive international festival with a distinctive identity rooted in Central European culture and Romania's increasingly vital cinema. Romanian cinema has undergone a remarkable renaissance since the mid-2000s, producing directors including Cristi Puiu, Cristian Mungiu, and Calin Peter Netzer whose films have won major prizes at Cannes, Berlin, and Venice.

The festival takes place primarily outdoors in Cluj's historic city center, with screenings in Unirii Square and other public spaces creating a festive atmosphere that draws both film enthusiasts and casual audiences.
