Docudays UA (International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival)
Ukraine's most important documentary and human rights film festival, held annually in March in Kyiv, presenting the best international and Ukrainian documentary cinema on human rights themes.
Overview
Docudays UA is Ukraine's most important documentary film festival and the country's primary platform for human rights cinema. Founded in 2003 and held annually in March in Kyiv, the festival presents the best international and Ukrainian documentary films on human rights themes and serves as a vital space for civil society engagement with documentary as a tool for social change.
The festival has gained extraordinary international significance since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Docudays UA has continued to operate despite the war, providing a crucial cultural platform in a country under attack and bringing international attention to Ukrainian documentary filmmaking and the human rights dimensions of the conflict.
The festival screens approximately 100 films and serves as much as a civil society platform as a film event. Human rights organizations, activists, journalists, and citizens engage with documentary as a means of understanding and responding to social and political conditions.
