Overview

FilmGate Miami is a Miami-based nonprofit film organization and year-round creative community that operates the FilmGate Feature Film Fellowship, monthly film festivals, labs, and artist development programs. Feature Film Fellowship

How It Works

The FilmGate Feature Film Fellowship is a multi-phase program:

1. Application and selection: 12 fellows are selected from a competitive open call. The 2026 fellowship deadline was April 1.
2. Mentorship phase (January to September 2026): Fellows receive 6 to 9 months of immersive mentorship including script refinement, development labs, packaging intensives, financing workshops, and producing sessions.
3. Live Pitch Showcase (September 2, 2026): Each fellow pitches their feature film project live before an audience of filmmakers, producers, investors, and industry professionals.
4. Production funding: A jury selects 2 projects from the 12 fellows. Those 2 projects receive up to $150,000 in combined seed funding plus full FilmGate production support to move into production.

Funding Amounts

The maximum production grant is upwards of $150,000, split between the 2 selected projects. The exact amount awarded per project is determined on a case-by-case basis by the jury. It is not $150,000 per project; it is up to $150,000 total divided between the two winning features. In addition to cash, selected projects receive full FilmGate production support, which can include equipment, crew, post-production resources, and festival strategy.

Eligibility

• Applicants must be Florida-based filmmakers
• Submitted scripts must have an English version (Spanglish is permissible but requires translation)
• Scripts should be in final draft form, between 60 and 130 pages
• The fellowship targets emerging filmmakers developing their first or second feature
