ScreenCraft Film Production Fund
Cash grants for independent feature and short film productions, awarded through ScreenCraft's competitive application process to projects with strong scripts and production readiness.
Overview
ScreenCraft is a screenwriting and filmmaking competition and fellowship organization that has expanded its support programs to include direct production funding through the ScreenCraft Film Production Fund. The fund provides cash grants to independent feature and short film productions that demonstrate strong scripts, a credible production plan, and the creative and logistical readiness to move into production.
Unlike ScreenCraft's screenplay competition programs, which focus on the written script, the Film Production Fund evaluates the full production package -- the script together with the producing team, budget, and distribution strategy. The fund is open to US and international filmmakers, and both narrative and documentary projects are eligible.
What It Funds
The Film Production Fund provides cash grants that filmmakers can apply toward development or production costs. The fund's approach is project-based: grants are awarded to specific films rather than as general career support or fellowship stipends. Filmmakers use the funds for whatever the project needs most -- pre-production expenses, production costs, or finishing funds depending on the project's stage.
Grant amounts vary by cycle. ScreenCraft also operates a separate Short Film Production Fund for short film projects, so filmmakers working at feature length and those working at short length have distinct programs to target.
Eligibility
Both US and international filmmakers are eligible. Narrative and documentary feature films and short films are all eligible formats. Projects should be in active development or pre-production -- the fund is not aimed at projects still at the concept stage.
Strong script quality is a primary selection criterion. ScreenCraft's background as a screenwriting competition organization means it applies rigorous script evaluation to Film Production Fund applications. Filmmakers should submit polished, production-ready scripts alongside their production materials.
ScreenCraft's Application Ecosystem
ScreenCraft runs multiple competitive programs simultaneously, including screenplay competitions, fellowship programs, and the Film Production Fund. Filmmakers should review the full ScreenCraft program calendar to identify whether other programs -- such as the Short Film Production Fund or genre-specific screenplay programs -- may also be relevant to their project.
Who Should Apply
Independent narrative and documentary filmmakers with a strong, polished script and a credible production plan who are ready to move into development or production. Both emerging and established filmmakers are eligible. The fund is open internationally, making it accessible to filmmakers outside the US who are developing English-language or internationally oriented projects.
