Overview

Berlinale Talents is a professional development program of the Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) that brings together 250 emerging filmmakers, actors, producers, distributors, and critics from around the world for a six-day program of workshops, labs, panels, and industry networking during the festival. Now in its third decade, Berlinale Talents has become one of the most important talent development programs in international cinema.

The program selects participants from thousands of applicants worldwide, creating an exceptionally diverse and talented cohort each year. Talents participate in discipline-specific studios (Directing, Screenwriting, Producing, Cinematography, Editing, Sound, Production Design, and more), attend masterclasses with established filmmakers, and gain access to the Berlinale's industry events including the European Film Market.

Berlinale Talents alumni form a global network of filmmakers who support each other throughout their careers. Many alumni have gone on to compete in the Berlinale's official selection and at other major festivals, and the program has become a recognized credential in the international film community.

What It Covers

Eligibility

Applicants must be emerging filmmakers, producers, actors, critics, or other film professionals who have produced at least one professional work (a short film, feature, or equivalent professional credit). The program targets professionals who are past the student stage but have not yet established sustained careers. There are no restrictions on nationality. Applicants must be available to attend the full program during the Berlinale.

How to Apply

Applications are submitted through the Berlinale Talents website. The deadline is typically in September for the following February's festival. Applications include a professional CV, work sample, personal statement, and a description of the applicant's current project. There is no application fee. Selection is highly competitive, with approximately 250 participants chosen from several thousand applicants.

Who Should Apply

Emerging filmmakers, producers, and other film professionals from any country who have completed at least one professional project and want to connect with the international film community. The program is particularly valuable for filmmakers from regions with limited access to international industry networks.
