Overview
DokuFest is Kosovo's most important film festival and one of the most distinctive events in the Balkans. Founded in 2002 and held annually in August in Prizren -- Kosovo's most beautiful city, with a UNESCO-listed Ottoman old town, Roman ruins, and Byzantine churches -- the festival presents documentary and short films in an extraordinary historical setting.
Kosovo declared independence in 2008 and is one of the world's newest nations. DokuFest was founded before independence, during the period of UN administration, as a cultural institution building blocks of civil society. The festival has served as a gathering point for Kosovar civil society and as a platform connecting the new nation with international cultural networks.
Prizren's summer festival atmosphere, with outdoor screenings in the city's historic buildings and public spaces, creates one of the most visually extraordinary festival settings in Europe.
