ZagrebDox -- International Documentary Film Festival

Overview

ZagrebDox is Croatia's most important documentary film festival. Founded in 2005 and held annually in March in Zagreb, the festival presents competitive international and Croatian documentary cinema and has grown into one of the most respected documentary events in southeastern Europe.

Zagreb's identity as Croatia's capital and a city with deep Central European connections -- reflecting the city's history as part of the Habsburg Empire before World War I -- gives it a cultural sophistication that distinguishes it from other Balkan capitals. The city's café culture, its museums, and its strong tradition of critical intellectual life provide an engaged audience for documentary.

Croatia has developed an active documentary film community, with Croatian documentarians regularly competing at IDFA and other major international events. ZagrebDox provides the most important domestic platform for this community.
