Overview

The Pune International Film Festival (PIFF) is one of India's most important city-level film festivals. Founded in 1998 and held annually in January in Pune, the festival presents competitive international and Indian cinema in a city with unique cultural and educational significance for Indian cinema.

Pune is home to the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), India's most prestigious film school and one of Asia's most respected. The FTII has trained generations of India's most significant directors, cinematographers, and actors. The festival's Pune location creates a natural connection with this educational tradition, providing an engaged, cinema-educated audience.

The January timing places PIFF as one of India's earliest annual festivals, providing a platform for films before the Mumbai and Goa events later in the year.
