FEMCI -- Festival du Cinema Ivoirien
Ivory Coast's most important film festival, held annually in Abidjan, celebrating Ivorian and West African cinema and supporting the growing film industry in one of West Africa's most economically dynamic nations.
Overview
The Festival du Cinema Ivoirien (FEMCI) is Ivory Coast's most important film festival. Founded in 2008 and held annually in Abidjan, the country's largest city and commercial capital, the festival celebrates Ivorian and West African cinema and serves as the primary platform for the growing Ivorian film industry.
Ivory Coast has one of West Africa's largest economies and Abidjan is one of the continent's most cosmopolitan cities. The country's French-speaking intellectual tradition and its connections to the Francophone African film network -- centered on FESPACO in Burkina Faso -- give FEMCI a clear cultural context.
Ivorian filmmakers have participated in FESPACO and other pan-African events for decades, and FEMCI provides a domestic platform specifically for Ivorian cinema alongside a broader West African program.
