Overview

The Morelia International Film Festival (FICM) is Mexico's most prestigious festival specifically dedicated to Mexican cinema. Founded in 2003 and held annually in October in Morelia -- the beautiful colonial capital of Michoacan state, a UNESCO World Heritage Site -- the festival presents competitive Mexican and Latin American cinema with the most important competitive platform for new Mexican filmmakers.

The FICM Mexican Competition has launched some of the most celebrated Mexican careers of the past two decades. The festival has consistently championed new voices in Mexican cinema, providing the debut platform for directors who have gone on to international acclaim.

Morelia's extraordinary colonial architecture -- its pink stone cathedral, its arcaded plaza, and its beautifully preserved 16th-century city center -- creates a festival setting of exceptional beauty. The Michoacan state's cultural heritage, including the annual Dia de los Muertos celebrations in the nearby Purepecha villages, gives the October festival timing particular cultural resonance.
