Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF)
Bangladesh's most important international film festival, held biennially in January in Dhaka, celebrating cinema from Bangladesh and South Asia alongside a diverse international program.
Overview
The Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF) is Bangladesh's most important international film festival. Founded in 1992 and held biennially in January in Dhaka, the festival screens approximately 120 films from around 60 countries and serves as the primary platform for Bangladeshi cinema and for South Asian film within Bangladesh.
Bangladesh has a modest but active film industry, with Dhaka serving as the production center for both commercial mainstream cinema and independent and art house filmmaking. The festival provides a platform for Bangladeshi filmmakers to show their work alongside international peers and for international programmers to discover emerging Bangladeshi talent.
The festival's biennial format concentrates the best films from a two-year period into a focused event. The January timing places DIFF early in the calendar year, giving it a distinctive position in the South Asian festival landscape.
